4	4	Jose Gerardo Garcia
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Dr. Jose Gerardo Garcia, who died
7	7	April 10, 2015, at the age of 79; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Jose Garcia was born on November 21, 1935, in
9	9	Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico; he earned his medical degree in
10	10	1957 from la Universidad de Nuevo Leon Medical School, and he
11	11	embarked on a distinguished career in medicine that would span
12	12	more than 50 years; and
13	13	WHEREAS, He became a naturalized United States citizen in
14	14	1965; his love of his adopted country compelled him to join the
15	15	United States Army, and he served the nation with distinction for
16	16	20 years as a surgeon and physician; he was an expert in the field
17	17	of aerospace medicine and became a charter member of United
18	18	States Army Aviation in 1983; he was promoted to the rank of
19	19	colonel and served as a NASA flight surgeon; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Dr. Garcia married the love of his life, Yolanda
21	21	Davila, in 1990; the couple lived in Laredo for 25 years, and he
22	22	served as medical director at several institutions, including
23	23	Charter Hospital of Laredo; he was active in a number of civic and
24	24	philanthropic organizations, such as the Laredo Daybreak Rotary
25	25	Club and the Knights of Columbus; and
26	26	WHEREAS, A devout Catholic and a devoted husband, father,
27	27	and grandfather, Dr. Garcia leaves behind memories that will be
28	28	treasured forever by his family and countless friends; now,
29	29	therefore, be it
30	30	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
31	31	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
32	32	family of Dr. Jose Gerardo Garcia; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	34	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
35	35	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
36	36	memory of Dr. Jose Gerardo Garcia.
