SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 667 In Memory of Jose Gerardo Garcia WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Dr. Jose Gerardo Garcia, who died April 10, 2015, at the age of 79; and WHEREAS, Jose Garcia was born on November 21, 1935, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico; he earned his medical degree in 1957 from la Universidad de Nuevo Leon Medical School, and he embarked on a distinguished career in medicine that would span more than 50 years; and WHEREAS, He became a naturalized United States citizen in 1965; his love of his adopted country compelled him to join the United States Army, and he served the nation with distinction for 20 years as a surgeon and physician; he was an expert in the field of aerospace medicine and became a charter member of United States Army Aviation in 1983; he was promoted to the rank of colonel and served as a NASA flight surgeon; and WHEREAS, Dr. Garcia married the love of his life, Yolanda Davila, in 1990; the couple lived in Laredo for 25 years, and he served as medical director at several institutions, including Charter Hospital of Laredo; he was active in a number of civic and philanthropic organizations, such as the Laredo Daybreak Rotary Club and the Knights of Columbus; and WHEREAS, A devout Catholic and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Dr. Garcia leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. Jose Gerardo Garcia; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Jose Gerardo Garcia.
