11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 671
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the citizens of Galena Park who have organized an
44 observance of the National Day of Prayer; and
55 WHEREAS, Civic prayers date back to the First Continental
66 Congress of 1775, and the first National Day of Prayer was
77 established when President Harry S. Truman signed a joint
88 resolution by Congress in 1952; and
99 WHEREAS, Since 1988, the National Day of Prayer has been
1010 celebrated the first Thursday in May, and residents of Galena
1111 Park will be observing this special day at the Galena Park City
1212 Hall on May 6, 2015; and
1313 WHEREAS, Prayer has remained an integral part of this
1414 country's rich history, and the National Day of Prayer is an
1515 opportunity for citizens of all faiths to gather and express
1616 gratitude for the many blessings and liberties we have and to
1717 pray for the nation, its people, and its leaders; now, therefore,
1818 be it
1919 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2020 Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Galena Park for
2121 organizing an observance of the National Day of Prayer; and, be
2222 it further
2323 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
2424 memento of this special occasion.
