| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the citizens of Galena Park who have organized an |

| 4 | 4 | | observance of the National Day of Prayer; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Civic prayers date back to the First Continental |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Congress of 1775, and the first National Day of Prayer was |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | established when President Harry S. Truman signed a joint |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | resolution by Congress in 1952; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Since 1988, the National Day of Prayer has been |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | celebrated the first Thursday in May, and residents of Galena |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Park will be observing this special day at the Galena Park City |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Hall on May 6, 2015; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Prayer has remained an integral part of this |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | country's rich history, and the National Day of Prayer is an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | opportunity for citizens of all faiths to gather and express |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | gratitude for the many blessings and liberties we have and to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | pray for the nation, its people, and its leaders; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | be it |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Galena Park for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | organizing an observance of the National Day of Prayer; and, be |

| 22 | 22 | | it further |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a |
