                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 671
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the citizens of Galena Park who have organized an
 observance of the National Day of Prayer; and
 WHEREAS, Civic prayers date back to the First Continental
 Congress of 1775, and the first National Day of Prayer was
 established when President Harry S. Truman signed a joint
 resolution by Congress in 1952; and
 WHEREAS, Since 1988, the National Day of Prayer has been
 celebrated the first Thursday in May, and residents of Galena
 Park will be observing this special day at the Galena Park City
 Hall on May 6, 2015; and
 WHEREAS, Prayer has remained an integral part of this
 country's rich history, and the National Day of Prayer is an
 opportunity for citizens of all faiths to gather and express
 gratitude for the many blessings and liberties we have and to
 pray for the nation, its people, and its leaders; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Galena Park for
 organizing an observance of the National Day of Prayer; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
 memento of this special occasion.
