                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 685
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Glenda and Jerry Kane, who are being honored by Mental
 Health America of Texas with the Texas Impact Award at the 52nd
 Annual Honoring Dinner: An Evening of Hope; and
 WHEREAS, Glenda Kane has been a public health advocate for
 more than three decades; she served for five years as a member of
 the Texas Board of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, where
 she was instrumental in having substance abuse categorized as a
 disease; she has also chaired the Texas Department of State
 Health Services Council; and
 WHEREAS, Jerry Kane served on the board of the Texas
 Rehabilitation Commission for 20 years, including 17 years as its
 chair, and he has also chaired the Health and Human Services
 Commission Council; he has further served the state on The
 University of Texas Chancellor's Executive Committee, the
 Governor's Commission for Disaster Recovery and Renewal, and the
 State of Texas Natural Resources Advisory Council; and
 WHEREAS, This distinguished Corpus Christi couple has
 played a vital role in ensuring that the citizens of South Texas
 have a voice in the state's health care decisions; they are truly
 deserving of special recognition for their long-term service and
 their dedicated efforts on behalf of the people of Texas; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby commend Glenda and Jerry Kane for the
 profound effect they have had on the delivery of health care
 services in our state and extend congratulations to them on
 receiving the Texas Impact Award; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
