| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Octaviano Gonzalez on the occasion of the |

| 4 | 4 | | ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 31, 2015, for the new |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Octaviano "Tony" Gonzalez Health Science Center in the South |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Texas Independent School District; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, For 44 years, Tony Gonzalez has worked diligently |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | on behalf of youth in the Rio Grande Valley; he served for 19 |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | years as a member of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | District Board of Directors, and he has served on the board of the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | South Texas Independent School District for 25 years; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his local leadership roles, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Mr. Gonzalez has been an influential advocate for education at |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the state and national levels; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, As a member of the Federal Relations Network of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the National School Boards Association for 35 years, he has kept |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | national leaders informed of the unique educational needs of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | children in the Rio Grande Valley and has worked diligently to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | keep bilingual education in schools; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Tony Gonzalez is admired throughout the valley, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the state, and the nation for his commitment to public education |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and for his invaluable leadership in helping to shape a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | successful education system for future generations; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Octaviano Gonzalez on his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | exceptional contributions to the Texas education system and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | extend congratulations to him on the South Texas Independent |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | School District Health Science Center being named in his honor; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and, be it further |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
