SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Octaviano Gonzalez on the occasion of the ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 31, 2015, for the new Octaviano "Tony" Gonzalez Health Science Center in the South Texas Independent School District; and WHEREAS, For 44 years, Tony Gonzalez has worked diligently on behalf of youth in the Rio Grande Valley; he served for 19 years as a member of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District Board of Directors, and he has served on the board of the South Texas Independent School District for 25 years; and WHEREAS, In addition to his local leadership roles, Mr. Gonzalez has been an influential advocate for education at the state and national levels; and WHEREAS, As a member of the Federal Relations Network of the National School Boards Association for 35 years, he has kept national leaders informed of the unique educational needs of children in the Rio Grande Valley and has worked diligently to keep bilingual education in schools; and WHEREAS, Tony Gonzalez is admired throughout the valley, the state, and the nation for his commitment to public education and for his invaluable leadership in helping to shape a successful education system for future generations; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend Octaviano Gonzalez on his exceptional contributions to the Texas education system and extend congratulations to him on the South Texas Independent School District Health Science Center being named in his honor; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
