                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 716
 In Memory
 of
 Roy Dowell Hailey
 WHEREAS, The passing of Roy Dowell Hailey of Houston on
 February 16, 2015, at the age of 59, has brought a profound loss
 to the family, friends, and colleagues of this accomplished
 Texan; and
 WHEREAS, Roy Hailey was born in Rosebud in 1955, the son of
 Dowell and Mary Martha Hailey; he spent his childhood on his
 family's ranch in the nearby town of Baileyville, where he
 developed a passion for the outdoors that would remain with him
 throughout his life; and
 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin,
 Mr. Hailey earned his law degree from the South Texas College of
 Law in 1981; he was a longtime partner in the firm of Butler &
 Hailey in Houston, and he specialized in representing community
 associations, earning a distinguished reputation for his effective
 advocacy; he also volunteered extensively, serving as president
 of the Greater Houston Chapter of the Community Associations
 Institute, and he was an acclaimed author on topics of relevance
 to community associations; in addition, he joined legislative
 action groups in their behalf, and he most recently served as
 cochair of the Texas Community Association Advocates; and
 WHEREAS, Sustained by his strong faith and genuine zest for
 life, Roy Hailey enjoyed a rewarding marriage of more than three
 decades with his wife, June, and he was deeply devoted to their
 sons, Andrew and Niels; he delighted in the company of his
 friends and loved ones, and he could often be found driving a boat
 on Lake Travis or spending time on his ranch in Baileyville,
 riding horses, tending cattle, and hunting with his sons; he was
 also a regular presence at Grace Presbyterian Church, which he
 served as an elder for the past 12 years; and
 WHEREAS, Roy Hailey was a champion for his clients and a
 caring family man and friend, and although he is sorely missed by
 all who knew him, he will forever be remembered with great
 admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy Dowell Hailey
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his
 wife, June Andersen Hailey; to his sons, Andrew Dowell Hailey and
 Niels Oliver Hailey; to his brother, David Wall Hailey, and his
 wife, Camille; to his nephew, Joshua Hailey, and nieces,
 Elizabeth and Rebekah Hailey; and to his other relatives and many
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
 this day, it do so in memory of Roy Hailey.
