| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Friedens Church of Washington, United Church of |

| 4 | 4 | | Christ, on the occasion of its 125th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Friedens Church of Washington traces its roots to |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | a congregation that was organized October 12, 1890, by a group of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | laypersons seeking spiritual guidance; early in its history, the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | church played a vital role in helping German immigrants and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | settlers become acculturated to their new state and country; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the church has ministered to the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | temporal and spiritual needs of countless people; under the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | guidance and wise stewardship of its pastors, and with the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | outstanding leadership of its current pastor, Gregg Felder, the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | church has continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of the community; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Friedens Church of Washington has become an |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | invaluable source of strength for church members in times of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | hardship and bereavement and a place of fellowship in times of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | abundance and joy; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The celebration of the church's 125th anniversary |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | is an opportunity for all to reflect on the church's rich history |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and its many contributions to the spiritual life and welfare of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | area citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of Friedens Church of Washington, United Church of Christ, on the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | joyous occasion of its 125th anniversary; and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
