SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 718 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Friedens Church of Washington, United Church of Christ, on the occasion of its 125th anniversary; and WHEREAS, Friedens Church of Washington traces its roots to a congregation that was organized October 12, 1890, by a group of laypersons seeking spiritual guidance; early in its history, the church played a vital role in helping German immigrants and settlers become acculturated to their new state and country; and WHEREAS, Over the years, the church has ministered to the temporal and spiritual needs of countless people; under the guidance and wise stewardship of its pastors, and with the outstanding leadership of its current pastor, Gregg Felder, the church has continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life of the community; and WHEREAS, Friedens Church of Washington has become an invaluable source of strength for church members in times of hardship and bereavement and a place of fellowship in times of abundance and joy; and WHEREAS, The celebration of the church's 125th anniversary is an opportunity for all to reflect on the church's rich history and its many contributions to the spiritual life and welfare of area citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members of Friedens Church of Washington, United Church of Christ, on the joyous occasion of its 125th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
