                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 719
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Dow Chemical Company's Texas Operations in Freeport on
 the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and
 WHEREAS, In the late 1930s, Dow Chemical Company was
 seeking to expand its operations to the United States Gulf Coast;
 after scouting locations from New Orleans to Brownsville, the
 company chose the Freeport area for its new manufacturing site;
 the area was chosen due to the region's proximity to sea water
 that was rich in magnesium, its natural gas reserves, and its
 harbor; and
 WHEREAS, Since its beginnings in 1940, Texas Operations
 has grown to become the largest petrochemical manufacturing
 complex in the world and is a major economic engine for Freeport,
 Brazoria County, and the entire state; and
 WHEREAS, The dedicated men and women who have worked at
 Texas Operations through the years have played a major role in
 the company's success; and
 WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that this exceptional company
 receive special recognition for the positive economic impact it
 has had on the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby commend Dow Chemical Company on its many
 contributions to the growth and prosperity of Freeport, Brazoria
 County, and our state and extend best wishes to all on Dow Texas
 Operations' 75th anniversary; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the company as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
