SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 723 WHEREAS, Members of Grace Cathedral Church in Houston are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of their church on June 28, 2015; and WHEREAS, Established in 1985 by Mildred Woodard, Christine and John Brooks, Julia Haynes, Rance Allen, Bessie Mayes, and Forrest and Velma Mitchell, Grace Cathedral Church has played a vital role in the community, providing myriad opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and outreach; and WHEREAS, Worshippers first benefited from the able leadership of the Reverend Lewis Terry Jr., and today that tradition of service is continued by the Reverend Charles H. Taylor Sr.; in 2002, Pastor Taylor helped organize the G. C. Community Development Corporation, which works through the church to provide affordable housing for seniors; and WHEREAS, For three decades, Grace Cathedral Church has served as a source of inspiration and guidance to all those who are involved in its activities, and its continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby recognize Grace Cathedral Church on the occasion of its 30th anniversary homecoming celebration and extend to its pastor and congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
