                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 744
 In Memory
 of
 Florence Keyes Olsen
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 of Austin in mourning the loss of Florence Keyes Olsen, who died
 October 16, 2013, at the age of 99; and
 WHEREAS, An Austin native, Florence Keyes was born on
 September 16, 1914; she grew up in the Clarksville area, and she
 graduated from Austin High School in 1931 and attended a business
 college; and
 WHEREAS, She eloped with Homer Olsen, a young newspaperman,
 in 1936, and his work took them to Dallas and Wichita Falls before
 they returned to her beloved hometown in 1949; they shared 60
 years of marriage and were blessed with three children; she
 became the proud matriarch of the family and was known as
 "Nannie" to her 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and
 one great-great-grandchild; Mr. Olsen was the well-known city
 editor of the Austin American-Statesman; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Olsen had a 40-year career at the Texas
 Capitol, where she was employed by Senator Charles Herring and
 later served as a receptionist outside of the Senate chamber; the
 Senate honored her as a "Texas Treasure" in celebration of her
 90th birthday; and
 WHEREAS, She was an active member of the community, and after
 her retirement, she dedicated much of her time to volunteering as
 a member of the Auxiliary at Saint David's Hospital; in her
 latest years, she lived at the Renaissance and served as head of
 the Hospitality Committee; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Olsen had a long and wonderful life and left her
 family with countless precious memories; she was beloved by many,
 and she will long be remembered with respect and affection by all
 who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Florence Keyes Olsen; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Florence Olsen.
