2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Mary Altman Yturria on the grand occasion of her 90th |

4 | 4 | | birthday; and |

5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Yturria was born on May 9, 1925, in York, |
---|
6 | 6 | | Alabama; she graduated from the Sophie Wright School for Girls in |
---|
7 | 7 | | New Orleans and attended Louisiana State University before |
---|
8 | 8 | | joining Pan Am Airlines in 1944 to aid in the war effort; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, She moved to Brownsville, where she met and |
---|
10 | 10 | | married local rancher and banker Frank D. Yturria; on her |
---|
11 | 11 | | birthday, which is also their anniversary, they will have enjoyed |
---|
12 | 12 | | 68 years of marriage together; they have been blessed with two |
---|
13 | 13 | | daughters and three grandchildren who are a source of much pride |
---|
14 | 14 | | and joy; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Yturria has devoted her |
---|
16 | 16 | | time and energy to supporting and promoting a wide range of |
---|
17 | 17 | | philanthropic and charitable causes, most notably in the fields |
---|
18 | 18 | | of conservation and historic preservation; she is the founder of |
---|
19 | 19 | | the Historic Brownsville Museum and a founding board member of |
---|
20 | 20 | | Los Caminos del Rio; she was a founding member of the Gulf of |
---|
21 | 21 | | Mexico Foundation and has served on the board of the Texas |
---|
22 | 22 | | Audubon Society; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Yturria has founded, served on, or chaired |
---|
24 | 24 | | many other boards and committees, and she has received numerous |
---|
25 | 25 | | honors, including the Ruth Lester Lifetime Achievement Award |
---|
26 | 26 | | from the Texas Historical Commission and the Texas State Teachers |
---|
27 | 27 | | Association'sHumanitarianAward;theMaryandFrankYturria |
---|
28 | 28 | | Elementary School was named in honor of her and her husband, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | July 4 of each year has been designated Mary Yturria Day in |
---|
30 | 30 | | Brownsville; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Mrs. Yturria is noted for her warmth, her wit, and her wise |
---|
33 | 33 | | counsel, and she inspires those around her by her enthusiasm for |
---|
34 | 34 | | living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby commend Mary Altman Yturria on her |
---|
37 | 37 | | invaluable contributions to her community and extend best wishes |
---|
38 | 38 | | to her on the occasion of her 90th birthday; and, be it further |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
