                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 749
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Mary Altman Yturria on the grand occasion of her 90th
 birthday; and
 WHEREAS, Mary Yturria was born on May 9, 1925, in York,
 Alabama; she graduated from the Sophie Wright School for Girls in
 New Orleans and attended Louisiana State University before
 joining Pan Am Airlines in 1944 to aid in the war effort; and
 WHEREAS, She moved to Brownsville, where she met and
 married local rancher and banker Frank D. Yturria; on her
 birthday, which is also their anniversary, they will have enjoyed
 68 years of marriage together; they have been blessed with two
 daughters and three grandchildren who are a source of much pride
 and joy; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Yturria has devoted her
 time and energy to supporting and promoting a wide range of
 philanthropic and charitable causes, most notably in the fields
 of conservation and historic preservation; she is the founder of
 the Historic Brownsville Museum and a founding board member of
 Los Caminos del Rio; she was a founding member of the Gulf of
 Mexico Foundation and has served on the board of the Texas
 Audubon Society; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Yturria has founded, served on, or chaired
 many other boards and committees, and she has received numerous
 honors, including the Ruth Lester Lifetime Achievement Award
 from the Texas Historical Commission and the Texas State Teachers
 Association'sHumanitarianAward;theMaryandFrankYturria
 Elementary School was named in honor of her and her husband, and
 July 4 of each year has been designated Mary Yturria Day in
 Brownsville; and
 WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community,
 Mrs. Yturria is noted for her warmth, her wit, and her wise
 counsel, and she inspires those around her by her enthusiasm for
 living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby commend Mary Altman Yturria on her
 invaluable contributions to her community and extend best wishes
 to her on the occasion of her 90th birthday; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
