55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Floyd Simpson, who died May 3, 2015, at
77 the age of 51; and
88 WHEREAS, Chief Floyd Simpson was a dedicated peace officer
99 who devoted his life to making his community a safer and more just
1010 place; his courage, his ability to get people to work together, and
1111 his concern for the rights of all citizens were an inspiration to
1212 all those who were privileged to share in his life; and
1313 WHEREAS, Floyd Simpson was a native of Chicago; he earned a
1414 bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University and a master
1515 of business administration degree from Amber University; and
1616 WHEREAS, He served with distinction for 25 years as a
1717 member of the Dallas Police Department; he rose through the ranks
1818 to become assistant chief of police and commander of the city's
1919 patrol bureau and administrative bureau, where he was noted for
2020 his ability to manage contentious issues with sensitivity and
2121 consideration for all points of view; and
2222 WHEREAS, He left Dallas in 2012 to become chief of the Corpus
2323 Christi Police Department; he quickly earned respect in his new
2424 home for his tough stances on crime and aggressive drivers, and he
2525 was beloved by the community due to his compassion and his
2626 wholehearted embrace of the people of the city; and
2727 WHEREAS, Floyd Simpson was an inspiring leader in the field
2828 of law enforcement who brought out the best in others, and he was
2929 held in the highest regard by his colleagues and friends; and
3030 WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Tanya, enjoyed more than
3131 27 years of marriage together, and his four children were a
3232 source of much pride and joy for him; and
3333 WHEREAS, He was a man of strength and integrity who gave
3434 generously to others; he was always ready with a smile, and his
3535 warmth and his wise counsel will not be forgotten; and
3636 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
3737 behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
3838 countless friends; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
4040 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4141 family of Floyd Simpson; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4343 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4444 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4545 memory of Chief Floyd Simpson.
