4	4	Floyd Simpson
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Floyd Simpson, who died May 3, 2015, at
7	7	the age of 51; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Chief Floyd Simpson was a dedicated peace officer
9	9	who devoted his life to making his community a safer and more just
10	10	place; his courage, his ability to get people to work together, and
11	11	his concern for the rights of all citizens were an inspiration to
12	12	all those who were privileged to share in his life; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Floyd Simpson was a native of Chicago; he earned a
14	14	bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University and a master
15	15	of business administration degree from Amber University; and
16	16	WHEREAS, He served with distinction for 25 years as a
17	17	member of the Dallas Police Department; he rose through the ranks
18	18	to become assistant chief of police and commander of the city's
19	19	patrol bureau and administrative bureau, where he was noted for
20	20	his ability to manage contentious issues with sensitivity and
21	21	consideration for all points of view; and
22	22	WHEREAS, He left Dallas in 2012 to become chief of the Corpus
23	23	Christi Police Department; he quickly earned respect in his new
24	24	home for his tough stances on crime and aggressive drivers, and he
25	25	was beloved by the community due to his compassion and his
26	26	wholehearted embrace of the people of the city; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Floyd Simpson was an inspiring leader in the field
28	28	of law enforcement who brought out the best in others, and he was
29	29	held in the highest regard by his colleagues and friends; and
30	30	WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Tanya, enjoyed more than
31	31	27 years of marriage together, and his four children were a
32	32	source of much pride and joy for him; and
33	33	WHEREAS, He was a man of strength and integrity who gave
34	34	generously to others; he was always ready with a smile, and his
35	35	warmth and his wise counsel will not be forgotten; and
36	36	WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
37	37	behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
38	38	countless friends; now, therefore, be it
39	39	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
40	40	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
41	41	family of Floyd Simpson; and, be it further
42	42	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
43	43	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
44	44	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
45	45	memory of Chief Floyd Simpson.
