                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 754
 In Memory
 of
 Floyd Simpson
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Floyd Simpson, who died May 3, 2015, at
 the age of 51; and
 WHEREAS, Chief Floyd Simpson was a dedicated peace officer
 who devoted his life to making his community a safer and more just
 place; his courage, his ability to get people to work together, and
 his concern for the rights of all citizens were an inspiration to
 all those who were privileged to share in his life; and
 WHEREAS, Floyd Simpson was a native of Chicago; he earned a
 bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University and a master
 of business administration degree from Amber University; and
 WHEREAS, He served with distinction for 25 years as a
 member of the Dallas Police Department; he rose through the ranks
 to become assistant chief of police and commander of the city's
 patrol bureau and administrative bureau, where he was noted for
 his ability to manage contentious issues with sensitivity and
 consideration for all points of view; and
 WHEREAS, He left Dallas in 2012 to become chief of the Corpus
 Christi Police Department; he quickly earned respect in his new
 home for his tough stances on crime and aggressive drivers, and he
 was beloved by the community due to his compassion and his
 wholehearted embrace of the people of the city; and
 WHEREAS, Floyd Simpson was an inspiring leader in the field
 of law enforcement who brought out the best in others, and he was
 held in the highest regard by his colleagues and friends; and
 WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Tanya, enjoyed more than
 27 years of marriage together, and his four children were a
 source of much pride and joy for him; and
 WHEREAS, He was a man of strength and integrity who gave
 generously to others; he was always ready with a smile, and his
 warmth and his wise counsel will not be forgotten; and
 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
 behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
 countless friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Floyd Simpson; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Chief Floyd Simpson.
