55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Kristin Elizabeth
77 McLain, who died April 27, 2015, at the age of 46; and
88 WHEREAS, Kristin McLain was born on February 10, 1969, in
99 Colorado Springs; she grew up at a boys' camp in Florissant,
1010 Colorado, where she developed a passion for horses and a deep
1111 love of the outdoors; and
1212 WHEREAS, She earned a degree in equine science at Colorado
1313 State University and spent several years training horses
1414 throughout the country; her desire to help others led her back to
1515 school, and she earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing at
1616 the University of Northern Colorado; and
1717 WHEREAS, She began her nursing career by serving in the
1818 emergency room at the Denver Health Medical Center, and she soon
1919 became inspired to pursue a career as a rescue flight nurse;
2020 after several years of working with Flight for Life of Colorado,
2121 she moved to Austin to serve with Star Flight, Travis County's
2222 aerial emergency medical service; and
2323 WHEREAS, She handled the responsibilities of a Star Flight
2424 nurse with the utmost skill and dedication, and she was greatly
2525 admired by her peers for her remarkable energy and tenacity, her
2626 enthusiastic team spirit, and her courage and compassion; her
2727 life was tragically cut short while she was performing her duties
2828 during a helicopter rescue mission; and
2929 WHEREAS, Kristin McLain was the devoted wife of Winston
3030 Merrill, with whom she shared a great love for the outdoors and
3131 athletics; she was a true hero who was beloved by many, and she
3232 leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who
3333 were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Kristin Elizabeth McLain; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Kristin McLain.
