4	4	Kristin Elizabeth McLain
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
6	6	citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Kristin Elizabeth
7	7	McLain, who died April 27, 2015, at the age of 46; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Kristin McLain was born on February 10, 1969, in
9	9	Colorado Springs; she grew up at a boys' camp in Florissant,
10	10	Colorado, where she developed a passion for horses and a deep
11	11	love of the outdoors; and
12	12	WHEREAS, She earned a degree in equine science at Colorado
13	13	State University and spent several years training horses
14	14	throughout the country; her desire to help others led her back to
15	15	school, and she earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing at
16	16	the University of Northern Colorado; and
17	17	WHEREAS, She began her nursing career by serving in the
18	18	emergency room at the Denver Health Medical Center, and she soon
19	19	became inspired to pursue a career as a rescue flight nurse;
20	20	after several years of working with Flight for Life of Colorado,
21	21	she moved to Austin to serve with Star Flight, Travis County's
22	22	aerial emergency medical service; and
23	23	WHEREAS, She handled the responsibilities of a Star Flight
24	24	nurse with the utmost skill and dedication, and she was greatly
25	25	admired by her peers for her remarkable energy and tenacity, her
26	26	enthusiastic team spirit, and her courage and compassion; her
27	27	life was tragically cut short while she was performing her duties
28	28	during a helicopter rescue mission; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Kristin McLain was the devoted wife of Winston
30	30	Merrill, with whom she shared a great love for the outdoors and
31	31	athletics; she was a true hero who was beloved by many, and she
32	32	leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who
33	33	were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
34	34	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
35	35	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
36	36	family of Kristin Elizabeth McLain; and, be it further
37	37	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
38	38	her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
39	39	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
40	40	memory of Kristin McLain.
