                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 828
 In Memory
 of
 Kristin Elizabeth McLain
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Kristin Elizabeth
 McLain, who died April 27, 2015, at the age of 46; and
 WHEREAS, Kristin McLain was born on February 10, 1969, in
 Colorado Springs; she grew up at a boys' camp in Florissant,
 Colorado, where she developed a passion for horses and a deep
 love of the outdoors; and
 WHEREAS, She earned a degree in equine science at Colorado
 State University and spent several years training horses
 throughout the country; her desire to help others led her back to
 school, and she earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing at
 the University of Northern Colorado; and
 WHEREAS, She began her nursing career by serving in the
 emergency room at the Denver Health Medical Center, and she soon
 became inspired to pursue a career as a rescue flight nurse;
 after several years of working with Flight for Life of Colorado,
 she moved to Austin to serve with Star Flight, Travis County's
 aerial emergency medical service; and
 WHEREAS, She handled the responsibilities of a Star Flight
 nurse with the utmost skill and dedication, and she was greatly
 admired by her peers for her remarkable energy and tenacity, her
 enthusiastic team spirit, and her courage and compassion; her
 life was tragically cut short while she was performing her duties
 during a helicopter rescue mission; and
 WHEREAS, Kristin McLain was the devoted wife of Winston
 Merrill, with whom she shared a great love for the outdoors and
 athletics; she was a true hero who was beloved by many, and she
 leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who
 were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Kristin Elizabeth McLain; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Kristin McLain.
