| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Marva T. Dixon on the occasion of her 2015 |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Dixon has served in many roles over the course |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of her distinguished career, including those of teacher, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | principal, author, director, trainer, coach, and consultant; she |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | began in 1974 as a teacher in the Grand Prairie Independent |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | School District, where she has served for the majority of her |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | career; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Among her many career highlights are the design |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and facilitation of the Women of Color K-12 Science, Technology, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Engineering, and Mathematics program and the MAN-UP Initiative; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | she implemented the first Advancement Via Individual |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Determination program in Grand Prairie and played an important |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | role in the restructuring of the Texas Educator Preparation |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Program, and she served as cochair of the Texas Commission on |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Standards for the Teaching Profession; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Dixon has for many years been an invaluable |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | leader in Texas education, and it is indeed fitting that she |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | receive special recognition for her many contributions to her |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | community and her profession; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Marva T. Dixon on her commitment |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | her induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
