                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 838
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Dr. Marva T. Dixon on the occasion of her 2015
 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Dixon has served in many roles over the course
 of her distinguished career, including those of teacher,
 principal, author, director, trainer, coach, and consultant; she
 began in 1974 as a teacher in the Grand Prairie Independent
 School District, where she has served for the majority of her
 career; and
 WHEREAS, Among her many career highlights are the design
 and facilitation of the Women of Color K-12 Science, Technology,
 Engineering, and Mathematics program and the MAN-UP Initiative;
 she implemented the first Advancement Via Individual
 Determination program in Grand Prairie and played an important
 role in the restructuring of the Texas Educator Preparation
 Program, and she served as cochair of the Texas Commission on
 Standards for the Teaching Profession; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Dixon has for many years been an invaluable
 leader in Texas education, and it is indeed fitting that she
 receive special recognition for her many contributions to her
 community and her profession; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Marva T. Dixon on her commitment
 to excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on
 her induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
