1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 955
2	2	WHEREAS, National NeighborWorks Week is being celebrated
3	3	from June 6 to 14, 2015, and this is a fitting occasion to
4	4	celebrate the work of Avenue Community Development Corporation
5	5	and its GO Neighborhoods program in Houston's Northside; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Avenue Community Development Corporation is a
7	7	nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of
8	8	life of working families and ensuring healthy neighborhoods by
9	9	building affordable housing in Houston; and
10	10	WHEREAS, A joint project of Avenue Community Development
11	11	Corporation and the Houston Local Initiatives Support
12	12	Corporation, GO Neighborhoods is a comprehensive community
13	13	revitalization program that seeks to reweave the social fabric of
14	14	the Northside community by providing quality affordable homes,
15	15	increasing family income, strengthening education, and promoting
16	16	leadership and civic engagement; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Over the six-year history of GO Neighborhoods,
18	18	264 partner organizations have worked with more than 14,390
19	19	volunteers to complete 200 new projects, including 254 homes and
20	20	apartments, leveraging $57 million to improve the livability and
21	21	vitality of the Northside; and
22	22	WHEREAS, This successful and dynamic initiative has
23	23	bettered the lives of thousands of residents of the Northside
24	24	community and helped to ensure Houston's future as a world-class
25	25	city of healthy, vibrant, and economically diverse
26	26	neighborhoods; now, therefore, be it
27	27	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
28	28	Legislature, hereby commend the GO Neighborhoods project of
29	29	Avenue Community Development Corporation and extend sincere best
30	30	wishes to the program's directors, partners, and community
31	31	volunteers for a memorable and meaningful 2015 National
32	32	NeighborWorks Week celebration; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
34	34	prepared for the GO Neighborhoods project as an expression of
35	35	high regard from the Texas Senate.
