SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 955
WHEREAS, National NeighborWorks Week is being celebrated
from June 6 to 14, 2015, and this is a fitting occasion to
celebrate the work of Avenue Community Development Corporation
and its GO Neighborhoods program in Houston's Northside; and
WHEREAS, Avenue Community Development Corporation is a
nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of
life of working families and ensuring healthy neighborhoods by
building affordable housing in Houston; and
WHEREAS, A joint project of Avenue Community Development
Corporation and the Houston Local Initiatives Support
Corporation, GO Neighborhoods is a comprehensive community
revitalization program that seeks to reweave the social fabric of
the Northside community by providing quality affordable homes,
increasing family income, strengthening education, and promoting
leadership and civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, Over the six-year history of GO Neighborhoods,
264 partner organizations have worked with more than 14,390
volunteers to complete 200 new projects, including 254 homes and
apartments, leveraging $57 million to improve the livability and
vitality of the Northside; and
WHEREAS, This successful and dynamic initiative has
bettered the lives of thousands of residents of the Northside
community and helped to ensure Houston's future as a world-class
city of healthy, vibrant, and economically diverse
neighborhoods; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend the GO Neighborhoods project of
Avenue Community Development Corporation and extend sincere best
wishes to the program's directors, partners, and community
volunteers for a memorable and meaningful 2015 National
NeighborWorks Week celebration; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for the GO Neighborhoods project as an expression of
high regard from the Texas Senate.
