| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 509, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Section 509.0042 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 509.0042. VETERANS COORDINATOR. (a) The division | |
| 13 | 13 | shall designate a veterans coordinator for the division to provide | |
| 14 | 14 | technical support to departments regarding the supervision of | |
| 15 | 15 | defendants who are veterans. | |
| 16 | 16 | (b) The veterans coordinator may work in consultation with | |
| 17 | 17 | veterans coordinators for any other division of the Texas | |
| 18 | 18 | Department of Criminal Justice. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
