| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 461, Transportation Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Section 461.0091 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 461.0091. STUDY OF TRANSIT SYSTEMS IN CERTAIN | |
| 13 | 13 | MUNICIPALITIES. (a) The University of Texas at Arlington shall | |
| 14 | 14 | conduct a study of the transit systems of Grand Prairie and | |
| 15 | 15 | Arlington. | |
| 16 | 16 | (b) In the study The University of Texas at Arlington shall: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) identify: | |
| 18 | 18 | (A) the municipal transit system needs of the | |
| 19 | 19 | residents of Grand Prairie and Arlington; | |
| 20 | 20 | (B) the causes of the needs; and | |
| 21 | 21 | (C) options to address the needs; | |
| 22 | 22 | (2) suggest improvements to the transit systems; and | |
| 23 | 23 | (3) identify: | |
| 24 | 24 | (A) the economic benefits of the suggested | |
| 25 | 25 | improvements; | |
| 26 | 26 | (B) the demographic and economic makeup of the | |
| 27 | 27 | population most affected by the suggested improvements; | |
| 28 | 28 | (C) the geographic areas most affected by the | |
| 29 | 29 | improvements; and | |
| 30 | 30 | (D) the cost of the improvements and possible | |
| 31 | 31 | sources of funding. | |
| 32 | 32 | (c) The University of Texas at Arlington shall submit the | |
| 33 | 33 | study to the legislature not later than December 31, 2018. | |
| 34 | 34 | (d) This section expires January 1, 2019. | |
| 35 | 35 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
