A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the study of certain municipal transit systems by The
University of Texas at Arlington.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 461, Transportation Code, is amended by
adding Section 461.0091 to read as follows:
Sec. 461.0091. STUDY OF TRANSIT SYSTEMS IN CERTAIN
MUNICIPALITIES. (a) The University of Texas at Arlington shall
conduct a study of the transit systems of Grand Prairie and
Arlington.
(b) In the study The University of Texas at Arlington shall:
(1) identify:
(A) the municipal transit system needs of the
residents of Grand Prairie and Arlington;
(B) the causes of the needs; and
(C) options to address the needs;
(2) suggest improvements to the transit systems; and
(3) identify:
(A) the economic benefits of the suggested
improvements;
(B) the demographic and economic makeup of the
population most affected by the suggested improvements;
(C) the geographic areas most affected by the
improvements; and
(D) the cost of the improvements and possible
sources of funding.
(c) The University of Texas at Arlington shall submit the
study to the legislature not later than December 31, 2018.
(d) This section expires January 1, 2019.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
