| 14 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 15 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 260A.007(k), Health and Safety Code, is |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | (k) If the department determines the report of abuse, |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | neglect, or exploitation is substantiated at the conclusion of the |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | investigation, the [The] department shall make a complete final |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | written report of the investigation and submit the report and its |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | recommendations to the [district attorney and, if a law enforcement |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | agency has not investigated the report of abuse, neglect, |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | exploitation, or other complaint, to the] appropriate law |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | enforcement agency. |

| 25 | 19 | | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | an investigation completed on or after the effective date of this |
|---|
| 27 | 21 | | Act. |

| 28 | 22 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
