9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 72, Government Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 72.034 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 72.034. STUDY ON PENDING MATTERS. (a) Not later than | |
13 | 13 | September 1, 2018, the office shall conduct a study on pending court | |
14 | 14 | matters including: | |
15 | 15 | (1) the backlog of current pending matters by county, | |
16 | 16 | judicial region, and type of matter; | |
17 | 17 | (2) an analysis of the use of senior judges to assist | |
18 | 18 | in the reduction of pending matters; and | |
19 | 19 | (3) recommendations to reduce pending matters and | |
20 | 20 | improve efficiency. | |
21 | 21 | (b) Not later than January 1, 2019, the office shall issue a | |
22 | 22 | report on the study required under Subsection (a) to the governor, | |
23 | 23 | lieutenant governor, and speaker of the house of representatives. | |
24 | 24 | (c) This section expires September 1, 2019. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
