11	5		relating to the licensing and regulation of a journeyman industrial
12	6		electrician.
13	7		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
14	8		SECTION 1. Section 1305.002, Occupations Code, is amended
15	9		by adding Subdivision (11-b) to read as follows:
16	10		(11-b) "Journeyman industrial electrician" means an
17	11		individual who engages in electrical work exclusively at a business
18	12		that operates a chemical plant, petrochemical plant, refinery,
19	13		natural gas plant, natural gas treating plant, pipeline, or oil and
20	14		gas exploration and production operation.
21	15		SECTION 2. Section 1305.102(a), Occupations Code, is
22	16		amended to read as follows:
23	17		(a) The commission [executive director] shall adopt rules
24	18		for the licensing of electricians, sign electricians, electrical
25	19		sign contractors, electrical contractors, journeyman industrial
26	20		electricians, journeyman linemen, residential appliance
27	21		installers, and residential appliance installation contractors as
28	22		prescribed by this chapter.
29	23		SECTION 3. Subchapter D, Chapter 1305, Occupations Code, is
30	24		amended by adding Section 1305.1601 to read as follows:
31	25		Sec. 1305.1601. JOURNEYMAN INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN. An
32	26		applicant for a license as a journeyman industrial electrician
33	27		must:
34	28		(1) have at least 8,000 hours of on-the-job training
35	29		as a licensed electrical apprentice under the supervision of a
36	30		master electrician; and
37	31		(2) pass a journeyman industrial electrician
38	32		examination administered under this chapter.
39	33		SECTION 4. Section 1305.162, Occupations Code, is amended
40	34		by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
41	35		(e) Notwithstanding Subsection (b), an examination required
42	36		for a license as a journeyman industrial electrician under Section
43	37		1305.1601 may only test an applicant regarding activities performed
44	38		by a journeyman industrial electrician at a location described by
45	39		Section 1305.002(11-b).
46	40		SECTION 5. Section 1305.168(a), Occupations Code, is
47	41		amended to read as follows:
48	42		(a) To renew a master electrician, journeyman electrician,
49	43		master sign electrician, journeyman sign electrician, maintenance
50	44		electrician, journeyman industrial electrician, journeyman
51	45		lineman, or residential wireman license, the license holder must
52	46		complete four hours of continuing education annually.
53	47		SECTION 6. Not later than September 1, 2018, the Texas
54	48		Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall adopt rules as
55	49		required by Section 1305.102, Occupations Code, as amended by this
56	50		Act.
57	51		SECTION 7. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
