115 relating to the licensing and regulation of a journeyman industrial
126 electrician.
137 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
148 SECTION 1. Section 1305.002, Occupations Code, is amended
159 by adding Subdivision (11-b) to read as follows:
1610 (11-b) "Journeyman industrial electrician" means an
1711 individual who engages in electrical work exclusively at a business
1812 that operates a chemical plant, petrochemical plant, refinery,
1913 natural gas plant, natural gas treating plant, pipeline, or oil and
2014 gas exploration and production operation.
2115 SECTION 2. Section 1305.102(a), Occupations Code, is
2216 amended to read as follows:
2317 (a) The commission [executive director] shall adopt rules
2418 for the licensing of electricians, sign electricians, electrical
2519 sign contractors, electrical contractors, journeyman industrial
2620 electricians, journeyman linemen, residential appliance
2721 installers, and residential appliance installation contractors as
2822 prescribed by this chapter.
2923 SECTION 3. Subchapter D, Chapter 1305, Occupations Code, is
3024 amended by adding Section 1305.1601 to read as follows:
3125 Sec. 1305.1601. JOURNEYMAN INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN. An
3226 applicant for a license as a journeyman industrial electrician
3327 must:
3428 (1) have at least 8,000 hours of on-the-job training
3529 as a licensed electrical apprentice under the supervision of a
3630 master electrician; and
3731 (2) pass a journeyman industrial electrician
3832 examination administered under this chapter.
3933 SECTION 4. Section 1305.162, Occupations Code, is amended
4034 by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
4135 (e) Notwithstanding Subsection (b), an examination required
4236 for a license as a journeyman industrial electrician under Section
4337 1305.1601 may only test an applicant regarding activities performed
4438 by a journeyman industrial electrician at a location described by
4539 Section 1305.002(11-b).
4640 SECTION 5. Section 1305.168(a), Occupations Code, is
4741 amended to read as follows:
4842 (a) To renew a master electrician, journeyman electrician,
4943 master sign electrician, journeyman sign electrician, maintenance
5044 electrician, journeyman industrial electrician, journeyman
5145 lineman, or residential wireman license, the license holder must
5246 complete four hours of continuing education annually.
5347 SECTION 6. Not later than September 1, 2018, the Texas
5448 Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall adopt rules as
5549 required by Section 1305.102, Occupations Code, as amended by this
5650 Act.
5751 SECTION 7. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
