| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Sections 62.0132(b) and (d), Government Code, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | are amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (b) A written jury summons must include: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) a copy of the questionnaire developed under this |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | section; or |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) the electronic address of the court's Internet |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | website from which the questionnaire developed under this section |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | may be easily printed. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (d) Except as provided by this subsection, a [A] person who |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | has received a written jury summons [and a written jury summons |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | questionnaire] shall complete and submit a jury summons [the] |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | questionnaire when the person reports for jury duty. If the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | district and criminal district judges of a county adopt a plan for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | an electronic jury selection method under Section 62.011, the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | county may allow a person to complete and submit a jury summons |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | questionnaire on the court's Internet website as authorized under |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Section 62.0111(b)(5). |

| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 62.0132, Government Code, applies only to a written jury summons |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | sent on or after the effective date of this Act. A written jury |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | summons sent before the effective date of this Act is governed by |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the law in effect immediately before the effective date of this Act, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
