104 AN ACT
115 relating to general officers within the Texas Military Department.
126 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
137 SECTION 1. Section 437.058, Government Code, is amended by
148 amending Subsections (a), (d), (e), and (f) and adding Subsection
159 (d-1) to read as follows:
1610 (a) The adjutant general may appoint as general officers one
1711 or more [an] assistant deputy adjutants [adjutant] general for
1812 army, an assistant deputy adjutant general for air, an assistant
1913 [deputy] adjutant general for homeland security, and an assistant
2014 [deputy] adjutant general for domestic operations [government
2115 affairs].
2216 (d) The assistant deputy adjutants [adjutant] general for
2317 [the] army shall support the deputy adjutant general for [the]
2418 army, represent the command staff at events as needed, and manage
2519 the activities assigned by the adjutant general or the deputy
2620 adjutant general for [the] army.
2721 (d-1) The assistant deputy adjutant general for air shall
2822 support the deputy adjutant general for air, represent the command
2923 staff at events as needed, and manage the activities assigned by the
3024 adjutant general or the deputy adjutant general for air.
3125 (e) The assistant [deputy] adjutant general for homeland
3226 security [the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard], as
3327 determined by the adjutant general, shall:
3428 (1) coordinate with other state agencies in matters
3529 pertaining to homeland security [to ensure state emergency services
3630 are provided and organized to support the state operations center];
3731 and
3832 (2) coordinate homeland security actions taken by the
3933 National Guard Bureau in this state.
4034 (f) The assistant [deputy] adjutant general for domestic
4135 operations [the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard, as
4236 determined by the adjutant general,] shall:
4337 (1) coordinate activities of the Texas military forces
4438 with the National Guard Bureau to ensure state emergency services
4539 are provided and organized to support the state operations center;
4640 and
4741 (2) coordinate with other federal, state, and local
4842 jurisdictions and officials [funding and coordination with other
4943 federal, state, and local jurisdictions and officials in matters
5044 relating to the operations of the Texas military forces occurring
5145 in the assistant deputy adjutant general's jurisdiction or
5246 oversight].
5347 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
