11	5		relating to general officers within the Texas Military Department.
12	6		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
13	7		SECTION 1. Section 437.058, Government Code, is amended by
14	8		amending Subsections (a), (d), (e), and (f) and adding Subsection
15	9		(d-1) to read as follows:
16	10		(a) The adjutant general may appoint as general officers one
17	11		or more [an] assistant deputy adjutants [adjutant] general for
18	12		army, an assistant deputy adjutant general for air, an assistant
19	13		[deputy] adjutant general for homeland security, and an assistant
20	14		[deputy] adjutant general for domestic operations [government
21	15		affairs].
22	16		(d) The assistant deputy adjutants [adjutant] general for
23	17		[the] army shall support the deputy adjutant general for [the]
24	18		army, represent the command staff at events as needed, and manage
25	19		the activities assigned by the adjutant general or the deputy
26	20		adjutant general for [the] army.
27	21		(d-1) The assistant deputy adjutant general for air shall
28	22		support the deputy adjutant general for air, represent the command
29	23		staff at events as needed, and manage the activities assigned by the
30	24		adjutant general or the deputy adjutant general for air.
31	25		(e) The assistant [deputy] adjutant general for homeland
32	26		security [the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard], as
33	27		determined by the adjutant general, shall:
34	28		(1) coordinate with other state agencies in matters
35	29		pertaining to homeland security [to ensure state emergency services
36	30		are provided and organized to support the state operations center];
37	31		and
38	32		(2) coordinate homeland security actions taken by the
39	33		National Guard Bureau in this state.
40	34		(f) The assistant [deputy] adjutant general for domestic
41	35		operations [the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard, as
42	36		determined by the adjutant general,] shall:
43	37		(1) coordinate activities of the Texas military forces
44	38		with the National Guard Bureau to ensure state emergency services
45	39		are provided and organized to support the state operations center;
46	40		and
47	41		(2) coordinate with other federal, state, and local
48	42		jurisdictions and officials [funding and coordination with other
49	43		federal, state, and local jurisdictions and officials in matters
50	44		relating to the operations of the Texas military forces occurring
51	45		in the assistant deputy adjutant general's jurisdiction or
52	46		oversight].
53	47		SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
