55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the eligibility of certain entities for grants awarded
88 by the criminal justice division of the governor's office.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 772.006, Government Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (g) to read as follows:
1212 (g) The criminal justice division may not award a grant to
1313 the Department of Public Safety, the Texas Department of Criminal
1414 Justice, a police department of a municipality with a population of
1515 800,000 or more, or a sheriff's department of a county with a
1616 population of one million or more unless the department is a party
1717 to an agreement with the United States Secretary of Homeland
1818 Security and United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement
1919 under Section 287(g), Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C.
2020 Section 1357).
2121 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2222 to a grant application submitted to the criminal justice division
2323 of the governor's office on or after the effective date of this Act.
2424 A grant application submitted before the effective date of this Act
2525 is governed by the law in effect on the date the application was
2626 submitted, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
2727 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
