| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 87, Education Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 87.303 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 87.303. TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY--KINGSVILLE COLLEGE OF | |
| 13 | 13 | VETERINARY MEDICINE. (a) The board may establish and operate a | |
| 14 | 14 | college of veterinary medicine as a professional school of Texas | |
| 15 | 15 | A&M University--Kingsville. | |
| 16 | 16 | (b) The college of veterinary medicine shall specialize in | |
| 17 | 17 | training veterinarians in operating a large animal practice. | |
| 18 | 18 | (c) In administering the college of veterinary medicine, | |
| 19 | 19 | the board may prescribe courses leading to customary degrees | |
| 20 | 20 | offered at other leading American colleges of veterinary medicine | |
| 21 | 21 | and may award those degrees. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
