| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 12, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | amended by adding Section 12.1172 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Sec. 12.1172. WAITING LIST FOR ADMISSION TO OPEN-ENROLLMENT |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | CHARTER SCHOOL. (a) An open-enrollment charter school with a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | waiting list for admission must make available on its Internet |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | website: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) the school's current waiting list, with each |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | student on the list represented by a unique identification number |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | that does not reveal the student's identity; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) a description of the process used to select |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | students from the waiting list. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (b) An open-enrollment charter school shall provide the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | parent of or person standing in parental relation to a student to be |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | included on the waiting list with: |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (1) information on how to access the publicly |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | available waiting list required by this section; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (2) the student's unique identification number. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | school year. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
