| 7 | 7 | | relating to the composition of the statewide health coordinating |

| 8 | 8 | | council. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 104.011(a), Health and Safety Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (a) The statewide health coordinating council is composed |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | of 17 members determined as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) the executive commissioner or a representative |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | designated by the executive commissioner; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) the chair of the Texas Higher Education |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Coordinating Board or a representative designated by the presiding |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | officer; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (3) the commissioner or a representative designated by |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the commissioner; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (4) the commissioner of the Texas Education Agency |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | [aging and disability services] or a representative designated by |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the commissioner [of aging and disability services]; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (5) the following members appointed by the governor: |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (A) three health care professionals from the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | allied health, dental, medical, mental health, and pharmacy |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | professions, no two of whom may be from the same profession; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (B) one registered nurse; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (C) two representatives of a university or |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | health-related institution of higher education; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (D) one representative of a junior or community |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | college with a nursing program; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (E) one hospital administrator; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (F) one managed care administrator; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | (G) four public members. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 2. On the effective date of this Act, the |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | commissioner of the Texas Education Agency or a representative |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | designated by the commissioner of the Texas Education Agency |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | replaces the commissioner of aging and disability services or the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | representative designated by the commissioner of aging and |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | disability services as a member of the statewide health |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | coordinating council, in accordance with Section 104.011, Health |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | and Safety Code, as amended by this Act, and the commissioner of the |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Texas Education Agency shall serve the remainder of the unexpired |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | term. |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
