66 AN ACT
77 relating to the eligibility of certain persons to teach a driver
88 education course.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1001.112, Education Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
1212 (a-1) The rules adopted under Subsection (a) must provide
1313 that a person with 10 years of driving experience may conduct a
1414 driver education course under this section in lieu of the parent,
1515 stepparent, foster parent, legal guardian, grandparent, or
1616 step-grandparent of an individual who is required to complete a
1717 driver education course to obtain a Class C license, if the person
1818 does not charge a fee for conducting the course and otherwise
1919 qualifies to conduct a course under Subsection (a).
2020 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2121 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2222 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2323 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2424 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
