 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the eligibility of certain persons to teach a driver
 education course.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 1001.112, Education Code, is amended by
 adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
 (a-1)  The rules adopted under Subsection (a) must provide
 that a person with 10 years of driving experience may conduct a
 driver education course under this section in lieu of the parent,
 stepparent, foster parent, legal guardian, grandparent, or
 step-grandparent of an individual who is required to complete a
 driver education course to obtain a Class C license, if the person
 does not charge a fee for conducting the course and otherwise
 qualifies to conduct a course under Subsection (a).
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
