| 13 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 408.025, Labor Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | (a-1) A treating doctor may delegate to a physician |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | assistant who is licensed to practice in this state under Chapter |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | 204, Occupations Code, the authority to complete and sign a work |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | status report regarding an injured employee's ability to return to |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | work. The delegating treating doctor is responsible for the acts of |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | the physician assistant under this subsection. |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
