A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to certain meetings of open-enrollment charter schools.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 12.1051, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
(c) The governing body of a charter holder and the governing
body of an open-enrollment charter school shall:
(1) hold each open meeting in the county in which the
charter school is located; or
(2) in the manner prescribed by Section 551.128,
Government Code, broadcast the open meeting over the Internet, make
a video and audio recording of each open meeting, and make available
an archived copy of the video and audio recording of each meeting on
the Internet.
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
an open meeting held on or after the effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
