55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a study conducted by the Texas Education Agency on the
88 financial costs of providing educational services to persons who
99 are not lawfully present in the United States.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. STUDY ON COST OF PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
1212 TO PERSONS NOT LAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES. The Texas
1313 Education Agency shall conduct a study to determine the financial
1414 costs incurred by the agency and by public school districts
1515 statewide during the 2017-2018 school year as a result of providing
1616 educational services to persons who are not lawfully present in the
1717 United States.
1818 SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2018, the
1919 agency shall deliver a report of the agency's findings to the
2020 governor, lieutenant governor, and the speaker of the house of
2121 representatives. The agency shall publish the report on the
2222 agency's Internet website.
2323 SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires February 1, 2019.
2424 SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect
2525 immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members
2626 elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas
2727 Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for
2828 immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
