7 | 7 | | relating to a study conducted by the Texas Education Agency on the |

8 | 8 | | financial costs of providing educational services to persons who |
---|
9 | 9 | | are not lawfully present in the United States. |

10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. STUDY ON COST OF PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL SERVICES |
---|
12 | 12 | | TO PERSONS NOT LAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES. The Texas |
---|
13 | 13 | | Education Agency shall conduct a study to determine the financial |
---|
14 | 14 | | costs incurred by the agency and by public school districts |
---|
15 | 15 | | statewide during the 2017-2018 school year as a result of providing |
---|
16 | 16 | | educational services to persons who are not lawfully present in the |
---|
17 | 17 | | United States. |
---|
18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2018, the |
---|
19 | 19 | | agency shall deliver a report of the agency's findings to the |
---|
20 | 20 | | governor, lieutenant governor, and the speaker of the house of |
---|
21 | 21 | | representatives. The agency shall publish the report on the |
---|
22 | 22 | | agency's Internet website. |
---|
23 | 23 | | SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires February 1, 2019. |
---|
24 | 24 | | SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
---|
25 | 25 | | immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
---|
26 | 26 | | elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
---|
27 | 27 | | Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
---|
28 | 28 | | immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
