 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
relating to the provision of family preservation services by the
Department of Family and Protective Services to certain high-risk
 families.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 264, Family Code, is
amended by adding Section 264.2012 to read as follows:
Sec. 264.2012. FAMILY PRESERVATION SERVICES. In the five
areas of the state that have the highest number of high-risk
families determined by zip code, the department shall implement an
evidence-based program that provides frequent in-home visits with
families who have a history of child abuse or neglect or who display
risk factors for child abuse or neglect with the goal of improving
family preservation and family reunification. The program must
contain guidelines for the frequency of monthly contact by the
department with the family, based on the risk factors for child
abuse and neglect in each case.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
