| 12 | 6 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 7 | | SECTION 1. Section 1305.201, Occupations Code, is amended |
|---|
| 14 | 8 | | by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (f) to read as |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | (a) This chapter does not prohibit a municipality or region |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | from regulating electricians or residential appliance installers |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | by: |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | (1) enacting an ordinance requiring inspections; |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | (2) offering examinations; |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | (3) issuing municipal or regional licenses; or |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | (4) collecting permit fees for municipal or regional |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | licenses and examinations from [electricians and] appliance |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | installers for work performed in the municipality or region. |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | (f) A municipality or region may not collect a permit fee, |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | registration fee, administrative fee, or any other fee from an |
|---|
| 27 | 21 | | electrician who holds a license issued under this chapter for work |
|---|
| 28 | 22 | | performed in the municipality or region. This subsection does not |
|---|
| 29 | 23 | | prohibit a municipality or region from collecting a building permit |
|---|
| 30 | 24 | | fee. |

| 31 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
