9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 6.406, Family Code, is amended by adding | |
11 | 11 | Subsection (c) to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (c) If the suit for dissolution of a marriage includes a | |
13 | 13 | suit affecting the parent-child relationship under Subsection (b), | |
14 | 14 | the court shall provide the parties with a written notice that | |
15 | 15 | includes the following statement: | |
16 | 16 | "It is the policy of the State of Texas that the best | |
17 | 17 | interests of the child shall always be the primary consideration of | |
18 | 18 | courts when determining issues of conservatorship and possession of | |
19 | 19 | and access to children in family law matters. Issues involving | |
20 | 20 | children of parents who are divorced or separated can often be very | |
21 | 21 | challenging for everyone involved. Parents are encouraged to seek | |
22 | 22 | out and utilize available resources and support organizations in | |
23 | 23 | their communities that can assist them in facilitating successful | |
24 | 24 | co-parenting of their children." | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
26 | 26 | to a suit for dissolution of a marriage filed on or after the | |
27 | 27 | effective date of this Act. | |
28 | 28 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
