55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to educational information regarding co-parenting on
88 dissolution of a marriage.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 6.406, Family Code, is amended by adding
1111 Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1212 (c) If the suit for dissolution of a marriage includes a
1313 suit affecting the parent-child relationship under Subsection (b),
1414 the court shall provide the parties with a written notice that
1515 includes the following statement:
1616 "It is the policy of the State of Texas that the best
1717 interests of the child shall always be the primary consideration of
1818 courts when determining issues of conservatorship and possession of
1919 and access to children in family law matters. Issues involving
2020 children of parents who are divorced or separated can often be very
2121 challenging for everyone involved. Parents are encouraged to seek
2222 out and utilize available resources and support organizations in
2323 their communities that can assist them in facilitating successful
2424 co-parenting of their children."
2525 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2626 to a suit for dissolution of a marriage filed on or after the
2727 effective date of this Act.
2828 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
