85R12882 JSC-D By: Anderson of Dallas H.B. No. 3507 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT relating to educational information regarding co-parenting on dissolution of a marriage. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 6.406, Family Code, is amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: (c) If the suit for dissolution of a marriage includes a suit affecting the parent-child relationship under Subsection (b), the court shall provide the parties with a written notice that includes the following statement: "It is the policy of the State of Texas that the best interests of the child shall always be the primary consideration of courts when determining issues of conservatorship and possession of and access to children in family law matters. Issues involving children of parents who are divorced or separated can often be very challenging for everyone involved. Parents are encouraged to seek out and utilize available resources and support organizations in their communities that can assist them in facilitating successful co-parenting of their children." SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only to a suit for dissolution of a marriage filed on or after the effective date of this Act. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
