44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to the promotion of the cruise industry in this state by
77 the Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter L, Chapter 481, Government Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 481.175 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 481.175. TEXAS CRUISE INDUSTRY STRATEGY PROGRAM.
1212 (a)
1313 The office may establish and implement a program for the promotion
1414 of the cruise industry in this state.
1515 (b) The office may conduct studies regarding the cruise
1616 industry in this state. The studies may include, but are not
1717 limited to, information that:
1818 (1) assesses the potential economic effect of the
1919 expansion of existing cruise terminals and the construction of new
2020 cruise terminals in this state;
2121 (2) identifies potential funding sources for public
2222 and private expansion of existing cruise terminals and the
2323 construction of new cruise terminals in this state; and
2424 (3) recommends any legislative changes necessary to
2525 expand and improve the cruise industry in this state.
2626 (c) Not later than September 1 of each even numbered year,
2727 the office may submit to each standing committee of the legislature
2828 with primary jurisdiction over economic development a report
2929 detailing the findings of any study conducted under Subsection (b).
3030 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
