6 | 6 | | relating to the promotion of the cruise industry in this state by |

7 | 7 | | the Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office. |

8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter L, Chapter 481, Government Code, is |
---|
10 | 10 | | amended by adding Section 481.175 to read as follows: |

11 | 11 | | Sec. 481.175. TEXAS CRUISE INDUSTRY STRATEGY PROGRAM. |

12 | 12 | | (a) |
---|
13 | 13 | | The office may establish and implement a program for the promotion |
---|
14 | 14 | | of the cruise industry in this state. |
---|
15 | 15 | | (b) The office may conduct studies regarding the cruise |
---|
16 | 16 | | industry in this state. The studies may include, but are not |
---|
17 | 17 | | limited to, information that: |
---|
18 | 18 | | (1) assesses the potential economic effect of the |
---|
19 | 19 | | expansion of existing cruise terminals and the construction of new |
---|
20 | 20 | | cruise terminals in this state; |
---|
21 | 21 | | (2) identifies potential funding sources for public |
---|
22 | 22 | | and private expansion of existing cruise terminals and the |
---|
23 | 23 | | construction of new cruise terminals in this state; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | (3) recommends any legislative changes necessary to |
---|
25 | 25 | | expand and improve the cruise industry in this state. |
---|
26 | 26 | | (c) Not later than September 1 of each even numbered year, |
---|
27 | 27 | | the office may submit to each standing committee of the legislature |
---|
28 | 28 | | with primary jurisdiction over economic development a report |
---|
29 | 29 | | detailing the findings of any study conducted under Subsection (b). |
---|
30 | 30 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
