 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the promotion of the cruise industry in this state by
 the Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Subchapter L, Chapter 481, Government Code, is
 amended by adding Section 481.175 to read as follows:
 Sec. 481.175.  TEXAS CRUISE INDUSTRY STRATEGY PROGRAM.
 (a)
 The office may establish and implement a program for the promotion
 of the cruise industry in this state.
 (b)  The office may conduct studies regarding the cruise
 industry in this state.  The studies may include, but are not
 limited to, information that:
 (1)  assesses the potential economic effect of the
 expansion of existing cruise terminals and the construction of new
 cruise terminals in this state;
 (2)  identifies potential funding sources for public
 and private expansion of existing cruise terminals and the
 construction of new cruise terminals in this state; and
 (3)  recommends any legislative changes necessary to
 expand and improve the cruise industry in this state.
 (c)  Not later than September 1 of each even numbered year,
 the office may submit to each standing committee of the legislature
 with primary jurisdiction over economic development a report
 detailing the findings of any study conducted under Subsection (b).
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
