A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to verification of eligibility for the school lunch
program.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 12, Agriculture Code, is amended by
adding Section 12.00292 to read as follows:
Sec. 12.00292. VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY FOR SCHOOL LUNCH
PROGRAM. To the extent allowed by federal law, the department shall
verify, or require local educational agencies to verify, the income
of each applicant for the school lunch program under 42 U.S.C.
Section 1751 et seq. whose eligibility under the school lunch
program is not based on an eligible program that may be used for
direct verification purposes under 7 C.F.R. Section 245.6a.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
