| 7 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 52.055, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | amending Subsection (d) and adding Subsection (d-1) to read as |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | (d) The expenses reimbursed under this section are subject |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | to annual limitations based on the size of the judicial district. |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | Except as provided by Subsection (d-1), a [A] court reporter may not |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | receive more than the maximum reimbursement amount set for the |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | reporter's judicial district in any one year. The maximum |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | reimbursement amount is as follows: |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | (1) if the judicial district contains two counties, |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | the maximum reimbursement amount is $400; |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | (2) if the judicial district contains three counties, |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | the maximum reimbursement amount is $800; |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | (3) if the judicial district contains four counties, |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | the maximum reimbursement amount is $1,400; and |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | (4) if the judicial district contains five or more |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | counties, the maximum reimbursement amount is $2,000. |

| 25 | 31 | | (d-1) For expenses that exceed the annual maximum |
|---|
| 26 | 32 | | reimbursement amount set for a court reporter's judicial district |
|---|
| 27 | 33 | | under Subsection (d), the reporter may receive reimbursement from |
|---|
| 28 | 34 | | the county for which the expenses were incurred on approval of the |
|---|
| 29 | 35 | | commissioners court of the county. |
|---|
| 30 | 36 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to |
|---|
| 31 | 37 | | expenses incurred by a court reporter on or after the effective date |
|---|
| 32 | 38 | | of this Act. Expenses incurred before the effective date of this |
|---|
| 33 | 39 | | Act are governed by the law in effect on the date the expenses were |
|---|
| 34 | 40 | | incurred, and the former law is continued in effect for that |
|---|
| 35 | 41 | | purpose. |

| 36 | 42 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
