A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to assignment by the University Interscholastic League of
schools to conferences for purposes of competition.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 33.0891 to read as follows:
Sec. 33.0891. ASSIGNMENT OF SCHOOLS TO CONFERENCES BY
UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE. In assigning schools to
appropriate conferences for purposes of competition based on the
number of students enrolled in each school, the University
Interscholastic League shall use only student enrollment
information provided by the agency to the league for that purpose.
SECTION 2. Section 33.0891, Education Code, as added by
this Act, applies beginning with the first University
Interscholastic League reclassification that occurs on or after the
effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
