A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to membership in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 821.001(6), Government Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(6) "Employee" means a person who is employed , as
determined by the retirement system, on other than a temporary
basis by an employer in any position for at least one-half time at a
regular rate of pay comparable to that of other persons employed in
similar positions. The minimum number of hours required for
one-half time employment must be the same for all categories of
employees.
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018
school year.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the member s elected to each house , as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect , this
Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
